SYRIA...
We are all aware that the conflict in Syria is just getting more and more devastating. The most recent tragedy being the destruction of the Yarmouk refugee camp, an area that has been under the control of ISIS since 2015.
As recently as April 22nd, Yarmouk was hit with “140 Syrian and Russian Air strikes, 78 barrel bombs and 98 surface to surface missiles”. Before the Syrian war began in 2011 Yarmouk was home to an estimated 200,000 people, mainly Palestinian refugees. Since then 160,000 citizens have fled and over 60% of the camp has been destroyed. Still trapped inside the area are an estimated 18,000 civilians most likely hiding in basements. These people have done nothing wrong and already suffered so much. With no access to food or medicine since the government-imposed siege in 2013, many people have died of starvation and treatable illnesses.
These inhumane conditions and escalation of violence is disgusting. Yes, it is a place that is controlled by ISIS but, these people have gone from disaster to disaster. Those who have left have suffered through their journey, and those who have stayed are suffering as we speak.
