A.S.P.S. MEMBERS TAKE ACTION
FAKE - Ministers voted that animals ‘do not feel pain’.
TRUE - The EU law currently in place to protect animal rights is being diluted and changed as it passes through the government as part of the new Brexit changes.
Myself and a few other members took part in a protest for the protection of animal rights this Saturday 2nd of December in London.
Europe’s Animal Rights laws are some of the best, and although improvement can always be had, the EU is very strict on how and where animals can be killed. Parliament has been voting on what parts of EU law will continue and not all parts have been selected, including legislation that concerns the treatment of animals. This could mean less farming rules for the protection of animals and prioritizing profit over animal safety.
The demonstration on December 2nd was originally to argue that animals are sentient beings in response to the alleged vote that “animals do not feel pain”, and this did not change but instead evolved into a show of solidarity and power. Giving a voice to the voiceless. The protest was to show those in charge that “WE ARE WATCHING YOU”. We are watching your movements, your laws, and we are prepared to fight for the rights of those who can’t fight for themselves. If you put through or change animals rights laws there will be a back lash.
The demonstration involved signing petitions, marching peacefully, raising awareness about these issues, and creating and provoking discussions. It began at Trafalgar Square, where about 700 people gathered, stood, chanted, and discussed views with the public.
The group then went on to join the Cube of Truth – a form of protest featuring laptops with videos onscreen of what happens to animals in the fur industry – and the Canada Goose protest. Canada Goose are an upmarket outerwear store who unapologetically use real fur trim and the now 1500-2000 demonstrators protested their use and potentially suspect practices.
