VANDALISM? GUERRILLA ART? WHO THE FUCK KNOWS.
This Italian guy Graziano Cecchini, an artist and activist, decided it would be a great idea to dump a load of red dye in the Trevi Fountain. Even though he claimed it would do no harm to the sculpture, it took many hours of peoples’ lives to clean up his mess and make sure no damage was done. Supposedly, this was to protest the corruption of Rome and “shake the sleeping souls” creating awareness.
Isn’t it funny though that the repeat offender had done the same fucking thing 10 years earlier. An act that was claimed by a right-wing group as a protest for the cost of the Rome Film Festival. This is also the man who bounced 500,000 bouncy balls down Rome’s Spanish Steps for some reason or another.
To be honest I think it’s a really fucking weird idea. Don’t get me wrong I am all for a good bit of protest art, but possibly damaging such iconic landmarks is ignorant and shitty to say the least. Especially with very little explanation of the reason for protesting.
Whether its art, protest or vandalism is up to you. But I have no idea anymore.
